Emma Fitzgerald (Genesis Project, Dublin, Co-Director)
Emma Fitzgerald is a dance artist, choreographer and writer. In 2008 she founded the dance company Fitzgerald & Stapleton with dance artist Áine Stapleton. Her work has been performed in New York, London and Dublin. In Spring 2009 she will revisit New York to perform with Stapleton in the company's latest work Dog of all Creation as part of Movement Research’s season of new dance works at the historic Judson Church. Fitzgerald has directed the artists’ residency program Genesis Project with Ella Clarke and Julie Lockett and has herself been artist in residence in Dublin City Council’s Incubation Space Program at The Lab and at Performing Arts Forum, France. Fitzgerald and Stapleton will return to Performing Arts Forum in 2009 to begin work on their next choreography.
Fitzgerald began working with internationally renowned choreographer and performer Deborah Hay in 2004. Since then she has developed three separate solo works choreographed by Hay and has performed this work in Wexford Arts Centre, Dublin Fringe Festival, Chisenhale, London, Sivuaskel Festival, Helsinki, Cavan Fringe Festival and at London Contemporary Dance School.
Fitzgerald trained at London Contemporary Dance School – one of Europe’s leading conservatoires – and graduated with a BA Honours in Contemporary Dance.
In 2008 Myriad Dance Company invited Fitzgerald and Stapleton as guest artists to choreograph a piece for the County Wexford Youth Dance Company. The resulting piece ‘Beauty’ was recently performed to great acclaim at the Sonraigh Youth Dance Festival.
Fitzgerald enjoys teaching dancers of all ages and has taught regularly for Myriad Dance, Wexford, County Wexford Youth Dance Company and Drogheda Youth Dance Company.
