FASHION RE/ACTION

Fashion Re/Action was a six-week series of studio workshops, collaborative events, and artist's demonstrations exploring new efforts and strategies towards a more sustainable fashion system. Focusing on the power of the individual as a means of change in fashion, Fashion Re/Action aimed to give beginners and professionals alike a platform from which to re/design and re/imagine what can be done with discarded materials. Through weekly Saturday workshops focusing on design strategies and creative construction techniques, we invited people to acquire the skills to become an active player in the fashion process and to reassess their ability as both a user and maker.

The Fashion Re/Action series was Culture Push's first workshop festival, growing out of the Studio Marathon series, and was held in both 2010 and 2011. All events were free and open to the public and all materials and equipment were provided.

In both 2010 and 2011, Fashion Re/Action workshops covered topics such as macrame, pattern making, natural dyeing, wearable sculpture, knitting, darning, needlepoint, clothing remake/recycle, and crochet. Workshops were led by crafter superbrain Shirley Rempe, artist Alex Parkin, Stacy Scibelli, Sara Parelhoff, artist Rachel Schragis, Jeremy Wilson, and Michael DiPietro.  Symposiums were held on sustainable fashion systems with artist and designer Pascale Gatzen, performance artist Glenn Marla, artist Rachel Schragis, and Otto von Busch aka Wronsov, founder of the brand and research project >Self_Passage<, an open-source project investigating empowerment through fashion hacktivism.
