Sonic Portraits

  • Meet at Blue Stockings 116 Suffolk St New York, NY 10002 usa (map)
A layered photo filled with warm brown textures. At the top center of the photo is a gold round bowl with black patterns. The bowl sits on top of the layered textures and has a faded ear in its center. Behind the bowl is a silhouette of a person.

Join Lauren Covey as she discusses her new work “a sonic family portrait” and shares her process of working with sound as a mental health tool. She will teach participants her process of recording sound as a coping tool by recording from emotionally charged environments and remixing them into unique soundscapes.

We will meet at Bluestockings Bookstore on 116 Suffolk Street and journey through the streets of the Lower East Side on a sound walk through Lauren’s neighborhood, and record sounds as we make our way to Ra Ma New York yoga studio, where we will perform a live mixing session to create a portrait of our experience together. After listening to our final composition and sharing our thoughts, Lauren will end with a gong bath to reset our systems and leave us feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
